Rihanna Confirms New Music: All You Need to Know
It’s been quite a while since Rihanna has released new music. The 30-year-old singer released her glorious double-platinum ‘ANTI’ album in 2016, and people have been anticipating when she’d release her ninth one. Every time Rihanna releases material, she dominates the charts effortlessly. Even to this day, her Drake-assisted track ‘Work’ is still a hit on dance playlists.
Although she hasn’t been active in the music field, Rihanna has remained high profile due to her work in the fashion and beauty industries. She’s been making waves with Fenty Beauty, her cosmetics line that is easily ranked among the top-selling make-up brands in the world.
But she has teased that her long-awaited new album is not far away. There have been reports that she is going to be taking a reggae-influenced tone and direction for this album, which is reportedly going to be called ‘R9’. She responded to a fan on Instagram recently, confirming that new music is definitely on the way (albeit she has to juggle it with multiple other projects).
“When the music is ready, you won’t have to ask for it. But it’s coming. Just not today sis. I’m hype too tho, it can’t come soon enough.”
No release date has been confirmed yet. In the past, Rihanna has waited so long as four years before releasing a new album, so it’s really hard to tell. On June 15th 2018, during an interview on The Graham Norton Show while she was on the road promoting Ocean’s 8, Rihanna revealed that she is currently working on new music. And on August 24th, Rihanna teased fans with selfies of her looking like she’s recording something.
She confirmed that her next album will be a reggae album, in her June 2018 cover interview for Vogue magazine. The album is heavily influenced by Jamaican-born producer Supa Dups, and according to Breathe Heavy, the star allegedly registered two new songs on ASCAP titled ‘Phatty’, and ‘Only One Who Knows’ at the end of 2017.
In the recent years, she has collaborated with the likes of Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled, Calvin Harris, Bryson Tiller, and Future. These are her frequent collaborators, and rumours show that some of them are hotly tipped to be working closely with Ri on her next one. There have also been rumours that Cardi B will be featured on Rihanna’s upcoming lead single.
As of now, all we have for sure are the above information. No artwork, no release date, no confirmed tour dates, nothing but our faith in the Bajan beauty. But the whole world is going to be shook when she drops her new music, so keep your ears perked!
