BTS Pushes Record-Breaking Boundaries With ‘IDOL’, Stays True to Their Brand Character

When BTS released “Fake Love” in May this year, they were at the peak of the huge BTS wave that shadowed the entire planet. Yet in terms of views on a music video, they fell 8 million views short of scoring the record for most views in 24 hours. Now, they had a shot with ‘IDOL’ which dropped last Friday (August 24).

‘Fake Love’ racked up 35.9 million views in its first 24 hours, and that was already in the wake of gut-busting Billboard performances, talk show appearances, and more. That put the video in third place for most views in a day, behind Taylor Swift’s 43.2 million views for ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, and Psy’s 36 million views for ‘Gentleman’. And since then, another rival has arisen, with BLACKPINK scoring 36.2 million views on ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’.

For the first 9 hours of ‘IDOL’, the video garnered 27.5 million views. With a basic projection, not counting in a slower pace, the video could get 73 million times in the first 24 hours.

The result: BTS ‘Idol’ racked up over 56 million views on YouTube within the first day, dethroning Taylor Swift triumphantly.

The boy group are also exploring different avenues to their road to taking over the music industry. With a number of artists on the international radar already expressing interest in collaboration, they have chosen to go with none other than the Queen of rap herself, Nicki Minaj.

Featuring Nicki Minaj on a special version of ‘IDOL’ is a testament to how crafty, artful, and sharp they are when it comes to building their musical standpoint. Nicki Minaj is currently invading pop and hip hop music charts all over the world with ‘Queen’, and is the fan-favourite when it comes to influential empowerment, and being the voice for the youth. This collaboration speaks highly of BTS’ loyalty to their own brand character––rebellious, youthful, yet intelligent.

ARMY is going for gold, and they’re shook by their own power. The moral of the story here: Never underestimate the strength of a powerful fanbase!
